Can you hear me now?

Yum...cinnamon.

Someone needs a drink.

(picks up ca. 1940 cocktail shaker)

One olive, or two?

Yes...I will have one olive please.
Oh, was that you?
I had to turn up the tv to cover up the noise.
That's better, just quiet whimpering.

My old computer was possessed by devils.
I bitched about it non-stop for about two years, and finally got a new laptop of my very own.
(Which others use at peril of their fingertips.)
So my old computer is the one hooked up to the printer.

Now I get to hear Tom over there saying
"What is its problem?"
"Why isn't it printing?"
"What happened to my file?"
"The keyboard's frozen again, and I haven't done anything."

It's like having a very, very slow echo in the room.
yep. we can hear you. I knew *something* woke me up last night.
[deep breath] [deep breath]
there is always an amount of suffering in becoming learned. sad but true.

two different problems here:
if you have cable modem, your laptop should not be looking for a dial tone. is trying to use a modem that is not connected to. is this a new problem? have you been able to connect to teh internets with it before?
need to fix your connection issue before trying to upload anything.

Can I have a cin roll please?
martinis and cinnamon rolls? why not? i'll take two or three of each, please.
how about a mash-up?
a round of cinnatinis, pleez
i'd like a cinnatini please extra cinni.

As far as your puter goes the only thing i can say is i can do basic computing but i live with a man who has set up a household net that is so byzantine and intricate that anything goes wrong and i would be screwed. I pray that if we die, i go first otherwise i would not have a clue how to find the digital vacation pics he has stored on the server in the garage. Of course when ever i have a problem i turn it over to him only to hear him fume, "why can't you work on this yourself?" Sigh.

When he is away at conferences and the puter goes down i just read a book and use the phone...and mope about the damn puter.

Did you plug it in? [heeheee!!! runs away very fast]

Nothing, I repeat nothing, gets my blood boiling more than a computer! I've seen a commercial for GeekSquad--maybe they could help? Maybe you have a frizzed energy field around you that does it...

Thanks, everyone! My dough is rising, so it looks like I've overcome any initial hurdles in my cinnamon baking efforts. Yay! And considering I'm also bringing a case of champagne to brunch, people will love them no matter what they end up tasting like.

Now for the 'puter. When I first got the laptop, I was on dial-up through AOL. Then I got a cable modem. It will find the cable modem, but the dial-up keeps popping up automatically. I have tried to shut it off, but I can't figure out how to do it. So I just spend time clicking it off, and then hitting 'connect' when another command pops up.

I don't know what to do about copying music. I can copy a CD onto my computer, onto other CDs, but not into my Vox. Grr. Another problem for another day.

And cinnatinis all around! Yum.

I'll bake an extra batch of rolls for the peeps! You'll get the second round, as the first round is for getting all the mistakes out. :-)

I agree this whole business can get very frustrating. Should be so simple. Ha!
User friendly my ass. lol

Yummmm on the cinnamon buns.
I vote for coffee with cinnamon schnapps to go with the rolls.

Good luck with the computer...there are days I wish our biggest problem was trying to bang the rocks together.

arrrrgh!

I was thinking the same as Jaypo, maybe there is somehting in your body chemistry that sends things haywire, you are just too hot to handle! :-P Really though...it's aggravating. I hope you get things sorted. I ended up being the 'computer person' at Weast, Inc. (Mariser, quit laughing) because everyone else (i.e., Beotchyface) was even stupider than I was, and I was the only one who had enough sense to try to figure things out. But it was hard trying to figure out what was going on on a computer that had been in use for a couple years before I even got there and troubleshoot from there. Eventually I got everyhting sorted (I switched us from dial up to DSL wiht no assistance, had to install every new piece of everything and sit on the phone with frickin Verizon for hours on end when things went fritzy) and then right before I left, of course, they got all new computers.

Yeah, I'm so hot I'm radioactive. That explains things. Now my sound doesn't work. Grr. I went the 'troubleshooting' feature and ended up with, "We have no idea what your problem is. Sucks to be you. Have a good life."

At least the cinnamon rolls seem to be okay. I called Mom a zillion times and said that I hope she doesn't feel like she failed me by not passing along baking ability.

She said I got genes from both sides of the family. I must have inherited cooking skills from Dad. Ouch. She laughed and said as long as I have enough butter, sugar, cinnamon and icing, they'll be good enough - especially if we'll all be drinking anyway.

mmm, coffee with cinnamon schnapps...
[this is good]
what about a new sound card. that is pretty simple
thats crappy, amy.. how have you managed since then?

how are you copying cds to your computer?

I've only copied a few CDs here and there, and don't use those features much. Probably because they drove me nuts (aarg!). But now I can't watch everyone's YouTube postings. Well, I can watch, but I can't hear anything.

That's fine. I'll just spend even more time farting around on my work computer. But my work computer doesn't play video files very well. Maybe I should just do actual work...

I've had the same problem with trying to upload music or video files to my Vox.

I too, have spent hours trying to share, only to get all frustrated and give. My problem stems from using an incredibly ancient computer, on incredibly slow dial-up... or so I thought.

I spent last week around my sister's. She has a nice new, fast computer with super duper fast broadband and you know what? I couldn't share anything from there either - Grrr!
