I am not a techno person either. I have slowly oh so slowly been teaching myself new things. As long as i don't crash the computer it is fun to try new stuff.
I don't even *know* what a blog reader is or what RSS feeds are. All I know is when I click on "subscribe to this blog or whatever, I thought I was going to have emails saying "(whoever) has a new post! go read it!" but I guess that's not how it works. So, Amy: 1, Cranky: 0
I'm with cranky -- I have no idea what you are talking about.
(I may be a little slow, I'm just back from pounding the laundry on wet rocks out back.)
So far you rule.
I concur. I've tried signing up for RSS feeds too, expecting them to magically appear in the folder Outlook has for that type of data. But so far it's not working. I must be doing somethin; wrong. *sigh(

Yeah, I thought it would go to my email as it sounded like that was what I signed up for. However, I ended up with an account with the blogfeed service so I have to log in on the website and see what's going on in the world.

After I log onto Vox and see what's going on my in 'hood, of course.

LMAO @ Lauowolf w/the laundry.

"Hello Kitty Hell" -- hahaha! My friend's girlfriend is threatening to move in with her and bring all her pink Hello Kitty crap along. That's toaster, bathtowels, toothbruth, floor rugs, the whole deal. i can't wait and i will be taking pictures.
amy, *moi* would never refer to something as "trailer trash". Teho may... ;)

RSS or RSS feeds is, a code that allows sites or blogs to publish their content. in order to 'see' the RSS feed, one uses a 'reader' (newsgator, for example) to subscribe to the feed. the reader then checks the blog and retrieves and displays new content. (I hope this makes sense)

I hadn't checked out newsgator. I'm on it now: it looks like when you sign-on you go to a newsgatoronline page that already has many feeds on it. to add feeds you need to click on the top right corner "Add Feeds", where you are there presented with with several choices: browse thru their offerings, search (like for "cute overload") and so on. once you find a feed of interest, you add it.
if you like, you can delete the built-in feeds and just leave the ones you are interested on. it seems that you have to go to the newsgator online page and log-in to see your feeds.

mc2, I don't think RSS feeds show in your email. actually if you check on the left column of CO, there are two options: "Subscribe to the cute" (the RSS feed) and "CuteMail" to get the day's posts sent to your email (Outlook or what-have-you)

readers vary a great deal in capabilities, complexities, and power. I've heard good things about the GoogleReader but havent' tried it out. for those of us who use FireFox for our Internet browser instead of Explorer, there is a very basic readed called Sage. Bloglines also has a reader.

hope this helps!

...and I forgot to say, !yay! for forging ahead into the technoworld!!
;)
Thanks, Mariser! I actually added a few sites by pasting in URL's. When I clicked on the little orange "Subscribe" icons, I just got code. I'm not sure what to do to make that automatic, but I'm pretty good at cutting and pasting, so I'm probably still a bit on the Luddite side of the house.

cut'n'paste always works. and some sites are tricky. I noticed that in newsgator, going to "Add Feeds" -->"URL & Import" tab -->www.cuteoverload.com gets an error. but www.consumerist.com finds and adds the feed. I suspect this has to do with how the site that one wishes to add manages the feeds.

and I had had that happen too, click the "subscribe" icon and just get code; again, as my grandmother said, "there is more than one way to skin a cat" (kidding, just kidding)
