In case you were curious about my blog address, here's a little story for you.

A few years ago when I was home for Christmas, my three lovely nieces were overjoyed at my return. The girls being small and not being able to adjust their own volumes, plus my dad adjusting the TV volume to compensate for the children, the noise was starting to fray my nerves. I calmly said to the girls, "Sweeties - I love you, I really do. But you have to understand that I live by myself and it's really quiet in my house. It's just me and Elvis, and he doesn't make any noise, either. So if I seem to be tense or not have much patience, it's just because I'm still getting used to you."

That night at dinner, with all of us around the table, the noise started picking up again. Finally, my then 8 year-old niece spoke up and said, "Everyone needs to be quiet! Aunt Amy lives alone with a cat."

Once the adults composed themselves, my oldest brother said, "You probably shouldn't take her along on dates."
